Hi! As far as I know, the unofficial coin used in (or adopted by the people of) Kelantan is the Islamic dinar, struck by the Islamic Mint.

Hi! I recently became aware that you were right after all! There are indeed about 4 gold coins minted specifically for Kelantan. That Wikipedia page is correct. There was a lot of controversy surrounding these. They are officially for investment purposes, but the government of Kelantan really does want them to become a legal tender currency. I am working on a detailed listing focusing on the gold dinars. There have been at least 3 major versions, and the Kelantan dinars are the latest (and most attractive).

Kelantan is going to be getting its own silver coins - 1 Dirham,2,5,& 10 Dirhams from later on this year.
I wouldn't be too surprised if other Malaysian states start issuing their own Dinar & Dirham coins as well.
Aidan.

Kedah and Perak have also issued silver and gold coins of the Dinar and Dirham denominations. They are available, with variable degrees of difficulty, in the capital cities of their relative states -along with Kelantan- as well as distributors in Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya. Petaling Jaya is Kuala Lumpur's satellite city.
Prices follow the gold price for the Dinar. The silver Dirhams also loosely follow the bullion price. Buyback prices from the distribution points tend to be low.
One should be able to do better by selling to local numismatic shops in Malaysia or Singapore. There is world demand from members of sites such as this one or on internet auction sites.
