Angulla Provisional Government
- June 16, 1967 Provisional Government of Angulla declares independence from British rule. This was not recognised by Britain or other governments. Britain appoints administrator. February 1969 Anguilla ousts British administrator, and declared the Republic of Anguilla. March 1969 British paratroopers land and restore British rule. British troops withdrawn September 1969, and the Anguilla Act of July 1971 places Anguilla directly under British rule. Anguilla Constitution of 1976 makes Anguilla self-governing British colony.
In 1967 Angulla issues counterstamped coinage, via Anguilla Island Council. Coinage performed by private firm in San Francisco, CA. Each coin had a redemption value of $10 US. Nicknamed "Liberty Dollars". All bear countermark date of July 11, 1967, and inscription "Anguilla Liberty Dollar".

photos for Anguilla countermarked coinage of 1967 can be seen In UWC 3 by Colin R. Bruce II, and Krause Publications on pages 13 and 14.
As the legal status of Anguilla was being decided by British military reaction, Anguilla responses, and eventually the British Anguilla Act of 1971, Anguilla minted Decimal Coinage from 1968 to 1970.
Although Anguilla issues are covered in Krause Standard Catalogs, in addition to UWC Bruce, the unrecognised independence, and tenuous political status of Anguilla classifies them as an unrecognised state from 1967 to 1971. Permanent status as self-governing colony guarenteed by Constitution of 1976.

In response to questions about the status of Anguilla, and why I'm including them here.
The declaration of independence by Anguilla in 1967 was not recognised by Great Britain or other nations. The name of this society is the Unrecognised States Numismatic Society.
If a listing of coinage is included in the Krause Standard catalog, does this mean the they are a recognised state, or does recognition only come when done so by another recognised state??
It is true the vast majority of unrecognised states are not covered in the Krause Standard Catalog. This is a rare occasion of one which is.
The title of this category is "suggested" coins to include in our online library. If you feel the Anguilla unrecognised coins should not be placed in the online library you have the right to voice your opinion here.
Meanwhile, I have two more Anguilla coins to list and then I'll move on to the next state or organization I feel, in my opinion, should be included in the USNS library.

Argentina
Why Argentina?? Answer: From 1817 to 1879 Argentina had several series of coinage which are of "fantasy" classification, self-declared states regional or attempted counterfeit variety. Some of these unqique varieties of Argentinian coinage are covered in the Krause Standard catalog, some are not. All coins are covered in the Bruce catalog pages 18 and 19, including photos.
Not included on this list are the Ar.-Patagonia coins, produced prolifically and already included in their own library classification.
Argentina (Provincial) Issued from 1822 to 24 a series of Provincial Argentinian coins were issued as crude imitations of the Potosi Mint "cob" coinage. Apparently these coins are occasionally mistaken for Mendoza or Tucuman issues.
1 Real silver, mint marked PN 1823, mintages unknown, values G 6, VG 10, F 17.50, VF 25, Bruce # X1
1 Real silver, mint marked P-Y 1824, mintage unknown, values unknown, Bruce X2 * Previously listed 1 Real X2 dated 1824 is not listed in the Standard Catalog of World Coins as Honduras KM 8.
2 Reales, silver 1822, mintage unknown, values G 8.50, VG 12.50, F 22.50, VF 32.50 Bruce X5
2 Reales, silver, rev. image of lion and castle 1823, mintage unknown, values G 8.50, VG 12.50, F 25, VF 32.50
4 Reales, silver, mint marked PN ND known, mintage unknown, values G 15.50, VG 25, F 25, VF 60, Bruce X9 * Previously listed 4 Reales # X19 dated (1) 1824 is not listed in Standard Catalog of World Coins as Honduras KM16.2.
Salta Province 8 Reales, silver, countermarked; "Patria" monogram in wreath on imitation Potosi Mint "cob" 8 Reales, ND (1817), unkown mintage, values G 17.50, VG 25, F 42.50, VF 60 * All known 8 Reales with countermark are considered spurious by leading authorities.
Tierra del Fuego An archipelago laying off the southern tip of South America. The main island of which is divided between Chile and Argentina. In 1889 an adventurer named Julius Popper issued coins for this region, thus the "Julius Popper Series".
1 Gramo 1889, gold, obv. reads "Tierra del Fuego 1889 Popper", rev. reads "El Paragamo Un Gramo", mintage unknown, values XF 850, Unc 1500, Bruce# X1, KM 1
5 Gramos 1889, gold, obv. "Tieera del Fuego 1889 Popper", rev. reads "Lavaderos de Oro 5 Gramos Del Sud", mintage unknown, values XF 3500, Unc 6000

Argentina Republic
Why include the coins of a recognised state, Knossos?? Answer; The Republic of Argentina is of course a long recognised state. However, in 1878/79 a series of unauthorised and, to the Argentine Government, unrecognised coins were minted in Belgium.
Who created this series and for what purpose?? I have no idea, but will certainly invesigate and report my findings.
Centavo 1878, copper, mintage unknown, value FDC 40, Bruce XE 1, KM Pn7, obv. coat of arms and date, rev. woman, denomination and ins. "Ley Del 25 De Setiembre 1978"
2 Centavo copper, mintage unknown, value FDC 25, Bruce # XE2, KM Pn8 Obv coat of arms, rev. same insc. and denomination
20 Centavos Fuertes 1879, silver, unknown mintage, val. FDC 275, Bruce XE3, KM Pn9, obv. woman, date, rev. coat of arms, denomination, insc. same as above
1879, bronze, unknown mintage, val. FDC 225, Bruce XE3a, KM Pn9a, obv and rev. same
40 Centavos Fuertes
1879, silver, mintage unknown, val. FDC 500, obv. and rev. same except denomination, Bruce XE4, KM Pn10
1879, bronze, mintage unknown, val. FDC 350, obv and rev same, Bruce XE4a, KM Pn10a

Here are the final two issues reported on in the Bruce 3rd ed. from the unauthorized Belgium minted Argentine Republic coins of 1879.
80 Centavos 1879, silver, mintage unknown, values FDC 650.00, Bruce XE5, KM Pn11, obv. and rev same as 40 Centavos except denomination
1879, bronze, mintage unknown, FDC 500, Bruce XE5a, KM Pn11a, obv and rev same
1879 copper, mintage unknown, values FDC 500, Bruce XE5b, obv. and rev same
Patacon 1879, silver, mintage unknown, values FDC 2000, Bruce XE6, KM Pn12, obv and rev same except denomination
1879, copper, mintage unknown, values 1250, Bruce XE6a, KM Pn12, obv. and rev same
This concludes the Argentinian Provincial and Fantasy issues described and photographed in Bruce 3rd ed. pages 18 and 19.
The Araucania and Patagonia issues are already listed under their own category in our library, although the various issues should be described and listed. The Bruce catalog includes these issues under their self-proclaimed status of New France, and perhaps arguably the library category should also include this in the title.
Armenia: Why Armenia Knossos?? The Bruce catalog lists an Armenian issue of 1920 which is not recorded in the Standard catalog. Information about who minted this issue and for what purpose is welcomed.
The date of 1920 tells us that this issue emerged at the time of the Reds-Whites Civil War following the Russian Revolution of 1917. Is this issue from the Reds, Whites, or an independent minded Armenian body??
Armenia Republic 1920, 5 Rubles, brass, no mintage or valuations are known, Bruce X1, obv. eagle, rev. denomination and date
Photos of this rare Armenian issue are on page 19 of the Bruce catalog.

The last issue I'll be suggesting today is that of the Atlantis coins of 1933.
According to Bruce it is quite possible that the Atlantis issues came from the "Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago" 1933.
There are only two listed in this category in the Bruce catalog erd ed..
Atlantis 1933, 5 Skaloj, Prince Regent Christiano I, bronze, mintage and values unknown, (but I happen to recall one of the 5 Skaloj going on eBay a couple weeks ago for around $25), obv. date and name of Regent, rev. denomination, Bruce X2
1933, 20 Skaloj, silver, mintage and valuation figures unknown, obv. Regent's name and date, rev. denomination, Bruce X4
