In my view US $20-25 per annum is a more than reasonable membership fee (with a US $10-15 student/pensioner concession).
I must admit I thought $5.50 something of a bargain basement price.

TEXT Hello George. This is Stephen from the yahoo group. I guess like a rat aboard ship I have made the migration. I tend to agree with you regarding the USNS dues. Oded points to the fact that after the PO Box and ANA registration we are already cash strapped. Via the now "old fashioned" yahoo group site, I suggested to Oded that if all current members agree (I think all would have to agree since they initially registered under belief that they were getting 1 years membership) we could suggest raising the fee to the amounts you suggest. Yes or no, we could at this point pass the hat for donations. But, as I suggested to Oded, there are free avenues of publicity for new recruits. Often the World Coin News initiates free ad offers as I recall. As is there classified ads are fairly reasonable. They can be contacted at www.coincollecting.net or phone 1-800-942-0673 or FAX 715-445-4087. Perhaps those members who currently have their own websites might post a link, since most are unrecognized or unusual world coins. One suggestion I made was the possibility of including a "perk" with a new membership fee (assuming we decide on raising said to $ 25 to 35). This might include an unrecognized coin such as one of erik's Zilchstadt/Nichtsburg coins. He would of course be compensated a percentage of that dues submission. Joel Anderson, who sells many of these type of coins may be interested in adding a link on his site. Perhaps Alan Berman, Greg, and even Colin/Krause Publishing may be willing to add a link. Perhaps members may be willing to hand out a few flyers or hand bills the next time they attend a coin show. Since we have members from around the world, including those still using the yahoogroups site, this "old fashioned" method may still be effective. If Alejandro has officially joined, he may be willing to add a link on his eBay Store, and assuming this is proper prodocal. There are amost infinate avenues of free publicity, or at least very low cost, available to raise awarness of USNS, but I am essentially in full agreement that dues could be a bit higher. I think the key attraction is that will draw membership is the inclusion of photos, specs and contacts/links info for these unusual and/or unrecognized states issues. When folks see that the site is rich and rife with such info and photos this will be a good inducement. It is natural at this very early stage that there is a bit of a recruitment struggle. One suggestion I have at this point is that for those of us not entirely computer savy, an explanation of how to add new photos, unrecognized/unusual coins issues info or new category (such as the Italian pre-Euros, ASCOLPA/Repubblica del Nord, Poarch Creek Indians, and others) may be useful. Perhaps some links on this site to Erik's, and other members who have websites may be helpful, and reciprocated. ASCOLPA has an excellent numismatic section on their website. It includes most of the Lega Nord and Padania issues since 1992. Perhaps a link to this body would be reciprocated. As I undestand it, we have nine paid members, one of whom paid for five years. The yahoogroups site from which we have come has I think over 50 members. It would be an oversight I think, if we did not make every effort to bring as many of these as possible over to this side. Perhaps the moderator of this site, and the moderator of the yahoo groups site could compare membership lists, and members from the yahoo site could be contacted individually by the moderator of that site for membership here. There does seem a wide gap. Anyay, this is where my thoughts take me at the moment. Stephen

I have a Question about Membership,
Is it 15$ USD for everyone? or just Students?
I went to the website and saw that the cost is 15$USD and I thought I ought to check before I do anything.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Richard.
It is US $15 for everyone, and you can pay up to 5 years in advance (which will save you $$ in the future if we ever decide to increase fees).

Hi!! Well, this web-site has been in operation for only 1 month, and thanks to the hard work of the bricklayers George, Oded, Chaim and others, it has come a long way in a short time. Soon, though, from what I understand, many portions of this site (the Coin Library in particular) will be ONLY accessible by paying members. And rightfully so (due to cost of advertising, ANA dues, and other future expenditures, perhaps a coin and/or a banknote). It's like the old saying, people appreciate things that they pay for much more. Erik

Hi Richard,
What you get from your USNS membership is first of all as much as you put into it.
As Eric wrote, the information on the site will soon be restricted to paying members only.
We will mint coin/s which will be offered to members, and most probably some coins will be available ONLY to members.
Most clubs I belong to, and I belong to quite a few, offer information, friendships and fellowship. If this is not worth $15 a year, I don't know what is.
Even if it's just the information, how much would 1 good book or catalog cost?
Oh, and you will also receive an official membership number, a membership card and another secret surprise that no one (except George and me) know about...
All the best & I hope to see you as a full member very soon,
Oded Paz Founder & President USNS # 1
